Pre-Christmas Party at our apartment, Dubai

We had a pre-Christmas party with our friends the Mazzawis and the Sears and ‘Grunty’.  The meal was Australian in flavour – pate, prawns, cold chicken and salads.  Susan made a fabulous Christmas pudding with brandy butter.  A fun day and a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.

We got a new tree this year (thanks mum x).  So much nicer than last years, and the cats didn’t play with it at all.

BABY JANE

Baby Jane and her mama.

I went to a lovely baby shower yesterday.  Our friends Darren and Debbie and 6year old Charles, finally brought home their new baby, Jane, from Ethiopia.

Jane is six months old but is only marginally bigger than Lilli was when she was born!  She is adorable.

Yummy food

I made a pavlova and got so many compliments - I should make them more often.

There was no shortage of 'aunties' to give Jane cuddles.  We had to play nice and take turns.  I want one!

Mr. TIM'S 42nd BIRTHDAY

Tim celebrated his 42nd birthday last month. The birthday celebrations started the night before his birthday at La Fontaine restaurant with the Xynia's and the Mason's. We ate outside near the fountain with oversized lanterns and candles being the only source of light. It was lovely. The fabulous venue and atmosphere were not let down by the food. Tim and I both felt that it was the best meal we had had recently. The children had a lovely time running around and making cubby houses out of the empty tables - fortunately we had arrived early which meant that the diners coming for a romantic evening did not have to tolerate us all evening.

Tim was shouted breakfast and lunch by Dimitri & Moose, with cake in the office in the afternoon, and the evening was spent outside at the Gulf Hotel at a conveniently arranged staff function. The 3 Amigo's (Tim, Moose & Dimitri) arrived in matching shirts and were quite successful in the prize winning stakes (promotional material from BCC clients) Alex (Dimitri's son) won a trip to anywhere in the world with Gulf Air. Unfortunately the fine print conditions make using it quite difficult.

PLAY DATE

Lilli had a play date with Lise at 'our place' today. Lise is in the same class as Lilli and they have regular plays together. Lise's family are French and she has managed to teach Lilli a few words.
Here is Lise.
A couple of others join in in the sandpit. Here are, Chelsea, Lilli, Ben and Lise. The pool area is quite a social hub in the afternoon.

FRIENDS FOR LUNCH

We had a lovely BBQ lunch with friends poolside on Saturday. Altogether 10 adults and 6 children ranging from 5 months to 11. The kids had a ball. Loads of lovely food, with a nutty rice salad, Greek cresent shortbread (I can't pronounce the name let alone spell it) and marble slab icecream the highlights. My pav was also a hit. I am going to try and make pav my signature dish - it seems to be the only thing that turns out consistently good when I attempt baking. This one had a topping of strawberries, banana, chinese gooseberry ;-) and passionfruit in honour of the 4 New Zealanders attending. The pommegranate was an afterthought - it needed using.

Remember these? Jelly filled oranges. I was needing an idea for an Australian dish to take to Lilli's school's International day to sell on the PTA stall. My friend Julie suggested the jelly oranges. Cheap, easy and a HUGE hit with the kids - they sold in minutes. Not quite so popular at the lunch, but then they were competing with icecream, pav and biscuits - go figure.
Here is NZlander Dave and baby Berty.
Moose on the left and Dimitri on the right. Fellow Aussies and also Tim's work colleagues. They travel to work and home again together. The 3 Amigo's!
From left to right: Vera, husband Marwan, Julie (Dimitri's wife), Tim, Dave, Berty & Kristin (Dave's wife).
